"Beginning in 2020 we will have a more explicit definition of membership. Membership will be defined by attendance at a monthly member meeting within the last three months and/or volunteering an equivalent (2 hrs) of time in a month on a posted volunteer opportunity. Volunteer opportunities will be shared at both meetings, in meeting notes, and in a google drive location. Examples include: organizing an exhibition, helping with the set up of an exhibition, recruiting new members, creating promotional materials for an event, making gifts for the single-mamas holiday gift bags, etc. Members can submit volunteer opportunities at meetings as well so that they can form project committees based on folks looking for non-meeting volunteer opportunities. Reporting volunteering is encouraged at meeting attendance, but for those who cannot make meetings and do volunteer work, reporting will happen in the google drive where those opportunities will be stored. The purpose of a more explicit definition of membership is to honor the work of those who are attending meetings *or* volunteering in their own time to keep Bluestockings going. This will also help raise the value of our members-only exhibitions encouraging more participation. This definition of membership will be a deciding criteria moving forward with participation in members-only exhibitions. Though there will continue to be exhibitions that are more open as well, we will prioritize membership exhibitions when the venue is important and appropriate. The first use of this will begin with our January 2020 exhibition at Coe, which will be members only. The lead up to this exhibition, along with other fall events, will present multiple important volunteer opportunities. Additionally, there will be important discussions at meetings leading to this exhibition that will benefit from attendance. In January of 2020 the Bluestockings Members group on facebook will be only for members that meet the above criteria. You can continue to follow the public page and jump back in at any time at either a meeting or a volunteer opportunity."
